History of CSTI

After the Independence, Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) felt the necessity to impart formal training to all branch officers by establishing a modern educational institute. Accordingly, BAF established Junior Command and Staff School (JCSS) on 12 July 1976 to prepare effective, skilled and professional commanders. The school was tasked to conduct Junior Command and Staff Course (JCSC) for the mid-level officers. Likewise, Individual Studies School Course (ISSC) was introduced in 1980 for the promotion examinations of junior-level officers. The dream of establishing a modern educational institute came into reality in 1983 through an Organizational Memorandum 3/83. The new institute named ‘Command and Staff Training Institute (CSTI)’ was inaugurated on 28 April 1983 with the motto of “Protiva Prosikhan Progoti”. The main concept of this institute is to prepare the future leaders of Bangladesh Armed Forces who can serve the nation with dignity and honour. Both JCSC and ISSC were put under the umbrella of CSTI for full-fledged conduct of these important courses. Later on, Squadron Commander Course (SCC) was introduced in 2009 for the potential squadron commanders. Since 2018, the institute is trying to develop Leadership and Behavioral qualities amongst all officers of BAF through the conduct of ‘Military Professional Ethics’ Module. The functional control of the institute is with Air HQ whereas the administrative support is vested with BAF Base Bashar. However, the institute was shifted to Jashore temporarily under the administrative support of BAF Base Birsreshto Matiur Rahman between 20 January 1991 to 22 February 1995. According to the Forces’ Goal-2030 and ICT Act-2009, CSTI has been modernized through web-based instruction (WBI) programme in Jun 2017 and online digitalization in Jul 2018. The institute has its indigenous software ‘Horizon’ for the conduct of online courses. Besides, the institute is well recognized for the founding of ‘Airspace Research Centre and Library’. Soon, the institute will launch ‘E-Management Resource’ and ‘E-Library’ through its indigenous software. Since beginning, CSTI has maintained international academic environment and ensured providing excellence in all its’ training activities. In recognition, CSTI has been awarded with the prestigious ‘BAF Colour’ on 07 July 2019. CSTI is in the process of introducing Diploma Progamme / Certification for different courses under the arrangement of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University (BSMRAAU). The institute is continuously aspiring to achieve national standard and world-class reputation. The institute has planned to introduce Joint Air Warfare Course (JAWC) for Armed Forces officers in future. Presently, the institute is conducting Individual Staff Studies Programme (ISSP), Junior Command and Staff Course (JCSC) and Squadron Commander Course (SCC).
