After the Independence, Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) felt the necessity to impart formal training to all branch officers by establishing a modern educational institute. Accordingly, BAF established Junior Command and Staff School (JCSS) on 12 July 1976 to prepare effective, skilled and professional commanders. The school was tasked to conduct Junior Command and Staff Course (JCSC) for the mid-level officers. Likewise, BAF introduced Distant educational courses in 1980 as part of promotion examinations of junior officers and established Individual Studies School (ISS) to conduct Individual Staff Studies Course (ISSC) under the Directorate of Education, Air Headquarters (HQ).
