Individual Studies School (ISS) was established under the Directorate of Education, Air Headquarters (HQ) in 1980 to conduct correspondence course for young officers. Since beginning, ISS started to conduct Individual Staff Studies Course (ISSC) on the relevant professional and academic subjects through a Distant Educational System. The school used to conduct Part-I and Part-II courses (nine subjects in each part) in main Bases of BAF throughout the year. In 1983, ISS was brought under the umbrella of Air Force Command and Staff Training Institute (CSTI) for the full-fledged functions of ISSC. The school is headed by a Chief Instructor (CI) and good numbers of faculty staffs. After the integration of indigenous software ‘Horizon’, the ISS conducts both Tutor-assessed Exercise (TAE) and End of Phase Examination (EPE) online from the CSTI. All Bases and remote Units (such as FIS, BRU, MRU, etc) including overseas deployed contingents are presently under the online coverage of ISS. Previously, thirty-five (35) ISSC comprising Part I and Part II were conducted and more than 2,800 officers successfully qualified in those courses. Till to date, twelve (12) ISSP of Part I and Part II have been conducted online and more than 900 officers have successfully completed these programmes.
