Group Captain Sharif was commissioned in the General Duties (Pilot) branch on 26 December 1992. He is a veteran Fighter pilot having both Operational and Instructional of Category ‘A’ and has credited more than 2,500 flying hours in various types of military aircraft. He is a core group member of BAF Leadership and Behaviour team. He has taken over the command of CSTI on 30 January 2020.
The officer has spent an illustrious and eventful 28 years in an untiring service to the Nation in general and Bangladesh Air Force in particular. He is a ‘fellow’ from Air War College and a graduate from Defence Services Command and Staff College. He has also completed MSc in both Military and Strategic Studies in his long illustrious academic career.
His command portfolio is rich with the experience of commanding a Fighter Squadron, an Advance Jet Training Unit, and a Flying Instructors’ School. Besides, he had commanded Flying Training Wing (FTW) of Bangladesh Air Force Academy (BAFA), Flying Wing of BAF Base Zahurul Haque and Operational Wing of BAF Base Bangabandhu. He has also a glorious and multifaceted carrier in different Staff appointments such as Deputy Director of Air Operations at Air HQ, Task Force Commander in Anti-corruption Commission of the Government and Director General (Flying) of Bangabandhu Aeronautical Centre (BAC). He has served as OiC, Mission Air Operations Centre (MAOC) of UN Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) in 2005~2006 and 2iC of BANAIR aviation contingent (MONUSCO) in DR Congo in 2016.
He has been awarded with Biman Parodarshita Padak (BPP), a peacetime gallantry award, two Chief of Air Staff Commendations, a five-star green endorsement and one Commendation from the Government of People’s Republic of Bangladesh for his relentless service and dedication to BAF and the Nation.
The widely travelled person, Group Captain Sharif, has passion for flying and reading. He is happily married and blessed with one son and two daughters.
