Group Captain Abdullah Al Farooq was commissioned on 01 July 1990 in GD(P) Branch. He is a Navigator with Category ‘A’ rating and having more than 4,700 flying hours in various types of fixed wing aircraft. His professional flying training includes Basic Flying Training Course in PT-6 aircraft; Basic Navigation Course in AN-32 aircraft; Qualified Navigation (QNI) Instructors’ Course. He has served in different flying squadrons in operational and instructional capacities such as Nav Leader and Qualified Nav Instructor (QNI). He has commanded BAF station SNR, Admin Wing of BAF Base ZHR, Operational Wing of BAF Base BBD. Outside his profession he has also served as Director Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka under Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh. He is a ‘fellow’ of National Defence College (NDC) and completed two MSc in Military Studies and Strategic Studies in his long illustrious professional career. His academic training includes Basic Staff Course (equivalent to JCSC) held in Pakistan, Air Staff course from DSCSC, Mirpur, National Defence Course from NDC Mirpur. He has also a glorious and multifaceted carrier in different Staff appointments such as Deputy Director of Air Operations, Director Overseas Air Operation and Director Metrology at Air HQ. He has served as OIC, Mission Air Operations Centre (MAOC) of UNMIS (UN Mission in Sudan) in 2006-2007, Unit Navigator of Bangladesh Air Transport Unit (BANATU) at MONUSCO in DR Congo in 2011-2012 and Contingent Commander of Bangladesh Airfield support and Management Unit at MINUSMA, Mali in 2021-2022. He has taken over the command of CSTI on 10 February 2022.
He is happily married and blessed with one son and one daughter.
